Neglect and Migration
Hello…
I’ve totally been neglecting my sites, well the security one has gotten a little more love than the rest… however, I’m going to see if I can orchestrate moving this blog to my demon117.net site. I’ve wanted to turn demonwerx into a business or a site used to produce something (what I don’t know yet).
We’ll see how this goes, maybe one of these days I’ll get rid of the horrible html main page
.

security.demon117.net
I’ve added [another] blog to my blogging portfolio, this one will probably get a good portion of my attention for a few days/weeks… I hope for a good amount of time, as this is definitely where I want my career path to go.
Check it out, leave comments.

Lytebox is here!
So I’ve always liked the lightbox/lightbox2 javascript effects, but whenever I tried to use it I couldn’t get it right.
And then came Lytebox, this thing is crazy fast compared to lightbox2 and is still being developed. Not to mention that it is one script compared to 5 or 6, it’s brilliant!
I will be using the Lytebox effect on more pictures I put on here, the post below with Conner has the effect.

More Linux
Thanks to a friend at work I’m going to be installing OpenVZ on a box at home, I think I may turn the old desktop that is currently running a VM OS, but not doing anything, into this OpenVZ box to build 3 little VMs inside of it.
2 web servers and a load balancer.
Then I’ll have to play with some php code to get it to display the server names and have a little website thats routed between the machines.
Sounds like a BLAST!
The droid is still not rooted, but is still awesome!

Home
I have had 2 or 3 DELL computers for years that I finally turned into little centOS boxes a while back, I have apache and mysql running on them so they act as good little webservers and actually on a few occasions made at least one available to the wold by my IP.
Well now the day has come (a few days ago) where the boxes are here and not just by IP anymore: http://demons.homedns.org:45457. I have to use a higher port because Cox doesn’t like me being a web host
.
I have a ventrilo server set up and in the process of configuring a IRC server. Like the site says: more functionality and information to come soon.

Windows7
So I am working on getting Windows7 installed at home, thank goodness for MSDN which is pretty cool except for the horrible downloads.
We’ll see how it goes. I am trying to get a ventrilo server setup, I have it running on a computer but am still struggling with the firewall rules. I am also going to be cracking the MySQL book to learn about the db and gain some ground for building custom automated reports. Good stuff!

VMs! and Life
So I downloaded and installed Xen Server by Citrix, except now I need to learn how to create VMs. Next adventure.
I am thinking about changing the front page to something a little bit better coded, rather than my chicken scratch. I’ve downloaded a few php CMSs that I’ll be trying out, most likely on the home systems first.
The boys are doing well and I get to go to Washington DC this week. By the way, when you start dreaming about system/application monitoring and spreadsheets something is very Very wrong.

Halo3 and WoW
Yeah… I’m playing both… and I hate Arizona drivers.
More on all of those later (just giving the site some love).

Quick rambling
So life is here… I still haven’t posted a pic of the Mac or the Babies… or done the work I was wanting to do on the front page of the site.
However, I have been busy: working, taking care of my beautiful wife, and trying to keep some sanity.
Things on the docket we (I) need to do: install the garage door opener, paint the babies room, install a fan in the babies room, install the blinds in the babies room, help pick out 2 rugs, and figure out an easy way of preventing Anubis from killing the window seat.
It’s all good… There may be some interesting events coming up on the work front that I wont put on here until later, hopefully they turn out good.
Ammon got a new TV and needs to experience 1080p, get the Pro man just get the Pro… well when they drop the price.

Updated Look
I played with a little bit of JavaScript last weekend on the front page of Demonwerx, lemme know what ya think. I will be adding more stuff to that as I put time towards it. I need to build a page for the Baby stuff too, the space is there its just a matter of time.
Everything is really just a matter of time…

Skeeered!
Word on the streets is it that Windows is going down… as an OS they probably will not go down for a very long time simply because of market saturation and fear of moving to a different OS. I actually don’t know how it is going to play out nor am I going to make any predictions, no info means guessing, guessing = most likely wrong. (I analyze for a living and must have data to do analysis)
So… what would I be scared of? Well, nuking and paving my current big gaming machine. I don’t know what all I have installed on the machine (I know I have W o W and Call of Duty 4) and some other programs. What else I have stashed in there is a good question and that is what is making me hesitant to get the cleaning started.
What about nuking other boxes? Oh yeah, no hesitation there! I am currently in the process of cleaning up a 120 (112Gb usable) disk so I can drop Suse10.3 (OpenSuse) Linux on that machine. Why? Well first it is a stable install that actually went through just fine on my laptop (it’s an old ~900Mhz 348Mb of Ram AMD box). If I am going to learn a *nix might as well drop it on my secondary box and get some use out of it. Currently that box is my Dev and Questing box, I do some HTML work on it for my lvl19.com site and use it for wowhead info when playing wow.
It’ll be fun, I might have it installed tonight or tomorrow night.

Busy…
So I am busy at work… its fun having a new job and I am finally getting used to my new schedule.
Nick, I removed your comments that linked to you website. The reason for this is your www.*****.com (not going to link) seems to have a virus and a bunch of spam links, you’re going to want to check that out.
We watched the Golden Compass this weekend, it’s very good (rushed in some places) but good… it is also the first of at least two movies and will pull a cliffhanger on you.
I have heard very good things about Hitman and hope to see that one of these days.
Boy do I have a lot of work to update things on here… that will have to happen later.

Theme: Change
Theme Change – you will have to click on the Post to read all of it… goes with the theme.
I have changed the theme of the site a few times. I was annoyed that the nice simple themes for some reason place the menu at the bottom of the site, instead of on the side. I enjoyed the last theme I had here, so I will poke through the Code.
The upgrade to the lastest and greatest WordPress went very well, and the site isn’t blocked at work anymore.
And I added a gallery.

HTML
So I took an HTML class and found out that I wasn’t going to be learning the HTML 4.01 like I signed up to learn. Why? you ask… Because 4.01 is not the current standard! It appears we have moved on to XHTML (extensible Hypertext Markup Language) I can’t remember the number behind the XHTML standard.
So coding is cool, but I always struggled with CSS as I thought it was mainly regarding colors and was seemingly very different from HTML and PHP, but I ran into it everywhere. I had tried to stumble through a book once before with little avail. Sitting down in class I learned two incredibly important lessons or parts of good XHTML coding -
I will now be working on the SoundWear Apparel website and probably will make a new splash page for Demon Werx as well.
Cool stuff!

New Skin
I changed the skin of the Blog…
I like the overall look of it, I will probably be trying to tweak the colors to be a little darker (who knows how that will go with the Color blindness), but most of all I think I need to change the little graphics used in the Blog. They look neat, but not fitting of anything resembling or related to a demon or demonic in nature.
We shall see…

Apache/PHP/MySQL
So my friend Milo sent me to a website PortableApps.com where I found a very cool little set of programs that allow me to run an Apache Server with PHP and MySQL with a one click install.
The package is called XAMPP. The home page is XAMPP and this thing is Awesome!
I just rebuilt one of the triplets to run the XAMPP package and I believe it will allow me to run a Mercury Mail server as well. I will keep this updated and possibly link more stuff too it.

Coding – Authenticate me
The Coding Gauntlet has been thrown!
I am currently working on a PHP based authentication page, this appeared “easy” but it is not. It’s freakin cool and fun though!

Linux server update
Ubuntu is a Gorgeous OS!
I was very impressed with the ease of install and the nice goodies it had when I installed it on my server/wifes gaming/old gaming box (AMD Athlon 3000 x64 1Gb Ram)… I then found I need to compile Sendmail and install it.
Before I compiled SendMail I moved the Hard Disk to the planned home of the future email server – Huey. Huey is a 1.2 Celeron with 128mb of Ram. Yeah, this didn’t work… I received a nice error saying a process failed to start and I wasn’t taken into the GUI… in fact, nothing really worked at all.
With some help and a great tutorial Milo sent meĀ I will soon do a Network install of Ubuntu and will have Huey up and running, then it will be on to download, verify, compile, configure, and hopefully run Sendmail.
More on this as it unfolds.

Nuke Evolution 2.0
The fantastic Nuke Evolution Team has released Evo2.0 so I will be updating the forums on this site to the newest, the latest, the greatest version of the CMS. I may lose content, but there was only my ramblings there anyways.
We will see how the upgrade goes.
