Patents

Patenting is an interesting thing.

It costs a lot of money for a single person or small company to obtain a patent, not to mention a long time. This most likely accounts for all of the “patent pending” things you see on TV and other places.

Yet, I have seen so many statements that reflect – patents are becoming “easy” to get. Easy! They might be easy for large companies and corporations to obtain, because they file for many patents at one time. For the smaller, 1 man, or just a few man companies it is not “easy” to file for patents.

I may be taking this out of context but I am annoyed with the press and their “this is too easy” comments, possibly it is more that I am just annoyed with the press all together (for the most part).

Apache/PHP/MySQL

So my friend Milo sent me to a website PortableApps.com where I found a very cool little set of programs that allow me to run an Apache Server with PHP and MySQL with a one click install.

The package is called XAMPP. The home page is XAMPP and this thing is Awesome!

I just rebuilt one of the triplets to run the XAMPP package and I believe it will allow me to run a Mercury Mail server as well. I will keep this updated and possibly link more stuff too it.

IE 7.0 FTP – No Go!

I was sorely disappointed yesterday when I attempted to FTP into one of my sites on my laptop that I just upgraded the browser from IE 6.0 to 7.0.

At first it gave me the folder structure just like you would see if you went to a website that just listed the files or folders in the browser, there was no FTP functionality. It said at the top – please open this window with the Open Window in FTP browser (or something). When I went to “Page” and then down to “Open window as an FTP site” it said it wasn’t able to open the window.

Fantastic! Take away one of the easiest ways to FTP from the little guys! Kind of disappointing.

Realization – Scientists

I was talking to someone the other day, ok a while back, about what caused cancer. I think I was talking to Amok.

There are a lot of things that cause cancer, just about Everything in some form or another can cause cancer. So we started to surmise the root cause of cancer, beside the whole mutated cell physiological part of cancer, what could that be?

Then the answer dawned upon my mind – Scientists! Scientists are the true cause of cancer! Amok here is a t-shirt for ya:

Scientists: Causing cancer in anything and everything they touch for X years.

There ya go, I put it on the Internets.

Cusp

The Wife and I stand at a cusp today.

We are hanging over the brink of the most expensive investment/greatest debt, and it all hangs on the call regarding qualification. If we qualify we will be putting earnest down on a house on Tomorrow and if we do not, well we will survive and… get more Christmas presents?

It is interesting because I convinced the wife to come to Az because I thought we would be able to purchase a house, well now we will find out.

More on the Housing Saga later.

WoW – Initial Thoughts

WoW…

Yes, I subjected myself to exposure to this dangerous material that seems to be so highly addicting, and I already posted something on here about it.

What is my aim with WoW? I would have to say to get into a game that is similar to my Guild Wars addiction, yet has a depth which is greater than GWs. I also want to play with the people I enjoyed gaming with when I was back in Washington – Monkey Spirit Guide and clan.

I currently have a level 5 priest that I put a little time into last night, supposedly its really easy to hit level 10, and then to 60+ it takes a while.

The graphics on my relatively old computer are ok it’s the same looking characters from the other Warcraft games, except it’s You! There is a huge difference between GW and WoWs graphics as GW is quite pretty and lovely graphics, where as WoW has some cool graphical things… like perspective and aspect.

I will tell you people more stuff when I come across it.

Wow I just got a Webcam spam comment on my blog, what the Hell!

Sure comments are fine, but Spammed porn comments aren’t cool at all.

Yay for bots.

Coding – Authenticate me

The Coding Gauntlet has been thrown!

I am currently working on a PHP based authentication page, this appeared “easy” but it is not. It’s freakin cool and fun though!

WoW

I downloaded the drug called WoW (World of Warcraft). I think I accidentally started my 10 day trial this morning too.

I will report back more when I get time to play.

AMD QuadCore

The 4×4 is there…

But it is sadly misunderstood. I read an article about this newest processor released by AMD, it was extremely frustrating for a number of reasons. First, to mock a smaller company such as AMD for it not beating Intel to market of the “Quadcore” chips got annoying quickly. Second, this is a true Quadcore and not 2 dual cores glued together, Intel has a tendency to do this in order to get a chip to market in a hurry. Third, this is not a gaming chip people! Get that through your thick skulls. A Megauser is not a Mega-Gamer, or a Gamer, or whatever…

Ok, I think I am almost done with my little Rant.

This chip, the FX-74, is going to be hot! Combined with a dual socket Mother Board this thing is going to be smoking! Combine it with an OS or programs that are able to take 4 cores at first and an additional 4 cores when it gets in full swing and watch the results.

Yes, the stuff PC computer ran it through found it seriously lacking compared to the Conroe dual-cores meaning it was farther behind the “Qx” lines from Intel I don’t think was an accurate representation of the chipset. (This is my blog and the 2 of you that read it are gonna get my opinions, jk) This chip set and board are going to be Awesome in the realm they are working after – the Workstations, server grade hardware, strapped in a situation that warrants the need for the usability of a workstations with the power of a server.

Please don’t take the word “Megauser” and think it is meaning Gamers, we don’t have anything that could use this processor correctly, yet. When we do, they will have an FX chip out there that will handle it well.

I love AMD, and I am going to love the Merom processor we are getting in the Wife’s laptop. For now it’s all about performance.

Beat before Christmas 2006

So I won some tickets…

And was freaking Cool!

The night was good – we were able to see and listen too: Danielle Bolinger, Ultra Natee, and Amber.

They had some great DJs spinning: Gabriel and Dresden, Kevin Brown, DJ Kilo, and others (I can’t remember their names).

The location – E4, I guess it’s a new upscale club in the heart of Scottsdale. It’s a pretty cool club with some cool stuff like – walls that have water and bubbles, a glass covered wall of metal with water running down it. It is a small club area, that gets even smaller when you have a stage for singers to sing, but still cool.

I purposefully won these tickets because I wanted to hear Gabriel and Dresden. However, Kevin Brown started spinning at 11 and there was a very good possibility that we wouldn’t have heard Gabriel and Dresden until 1am. So we left in order to get some sleep and that kind of good stuff, there is nothing like having to work in the morning after a good party.

The music was good, the drive there was fun… yes, I toasted some big mustang off the line. He was pretty surprised when the Subaru was a good 2 car lengths ahead of him.

But I will have to see or hear Gabriel and Dresden another time.

The Beat before Christmas Rocked!
