House: Closed!
We just closed on our house, title was signed and sent off at roughly 1:15pm today.
Yay! Biggest investment we’ve ever made and now we just wait for the call to come and get the key.

5 Year Aniversary!
The wife and I have been married for 5 years today.
It’s love!
I guess the 5 year mark is wood, and us moving into the new house next week is definitely the perfect manifestation of a the “wood” aniversary.

Tales of the Contract Server Monkey
Ok, so its just one tale and I was only there for 4 hours… but it was fun!
A friend from work has a part time job working for a small but large company (3 offices with a few employees, but Large output and customers).
Today I got to help them phase out an old HP switch (it was big, lots of ports 40?) and cut out all the Cat5e that was run to it. I tell you what, they liked to zip-tie things together, I had to cut ties from the rack, the rack frame, the other cables, the tube with cables, the wall, and Mike had to cut a tie that was connected to a conduit attached to the overhead flourescent light so we could pull the 15 to 20ft of cat5e that was run from the switch through the ceiling back into the same room to somewhere else.
Lets see after that, I got to move some switches, change out a few large cables to smaller patch cables between switches… and oh yeah, Move the WAN for the entire office up 2 spots in the rack. The Boss said – this is the WAN, it would not be cool if it unplugged, but go ahead and move it. So there I was, on a 2 step stepladder balancing what I believe was a fibre WAN router on my fist so I could line up the holes for the rack. I got 3 of the 4 screws in and then had to have Mike help me, he needed a break from talking to HP anyway, and it was fun putting them on hold (sitting the phone on the desk and walking away). We were able to get the WAN set and that portion looking nice.
Hehe, Oh yeah… In the middle of the move I just mentioned when switching between the long cables and the little patch cables. I think these are the network connections for upstairs. People were actively using the connections I was switching out, so I had to be fast and precise. No pressure once again, but tons of fun.
Tomorrow: I get to help rack 4 1U servers (all CISCO telco stuff), move another switch up, add a line manager (plastic thing with slots to line cables up neatly), and probably another switch to that other rack. Then it will be on to selecting 45 phones, documenting their MAC addresses (emailing that off to get it entered into the phone server/system) and then distributing the phones and setting up connections to a virtual print server hosted on a new file server… Cool freakin stuff!
Tomorrow 10am starts another adventure of the Contract Server Monkey.

Servers and Mainframes
So I was thinking.
We’ve got these Old School Mainframes and these new fandangled servers, I will have to dive into the Wiki and history and all that stuff… but I am thinking about a new hybrid type of architecture that would use both servers and mainframes.
I will be putting this stuff in the tech side of the site too…

W o W update
Well its time to update whats goin on in the WoW world…
Demonicon – is still a 66 paladin, however I just respec’d to Protection… (I was part of a quick pug for Shattered Halls and ran into a pally tank that I couldn’t pull aggro off of with my hunter… at all!) Needless to say I now have renewed faith in playing the pally.
Darkehunter – 70! Hunter … Beast Spec, I have 2 of the Beastlord set on him (Shoulders and Leggings, both from SteamVaults). I am also running the felstalker set (breastplate, bracers, and belt) for the +20 hit rating, this will be upgraded once I hit 375 Leatherworking (366 now) to the Ebon Netherscale (incredible set, requires 3 primal nethers) … The hunter is still guildless after leaving Outcast, hopefully I will work my way into Exile.
Darkespectre – 21 rogue. I finally gave in and started to level the twink… she owns, has more hp then the mobs I run into, and they rarely last more then 10 hits. Just got poison so that needs to be leveled with lock picking.
Demonspectre – 18 druid, going to turn him into a feral tank, can’t wait to get him level’d so I can tank like some of the bears I’ve seen… soon. He’s a alchy and herbie… though I am sorely tempted to pick up LW to go with the elemental leather, some of that gear is awesome!
These are the ones I am playing with now… I keep getting told I should move to other friends servers, but that is a hard choice as I would consider myself nicely established over here on whisperwind.
I will most likely be adding a wow section to the demonwerx domain, possibly a subdomain, most likely just another folder.

Update:House
We have Carpet! Tile! Countertops! Outlet/Lightswitch Covers! Dishwasher! Stove! Hood!…
Ok, so the house is mostly done. I believe they have all the major parts in, we need them to make a few cosmetic fixes (some minor others major) and then in 14 days from today… we will be getting cash back! Yeah, thats freakin awesome! Cash “back” for buying a house, this is good as we paid a bunch of money at the beginning of the whole process. It’s exciting, I have new pictures and have been thinking about redesigning the page I have all the house pictures on… as well as doing a serious update to it.
More soon.

Headache
I have a headache… it’s work.
As I complain, I realize I am complaining mostly about a situation I have placed myself in, perpetuated, and am solely responsible for getting myself out.
I have been in my position for just under 11 months, this is the longest position in this company I have held. I am happy that I have been with this Company for as long as I have, but I am getting bored, arrogant, annoyed, and worst of all complacent.
I am now getting a small taste of what the wife means when she says she has been in her job for as long as she has, and the period of time she has been with her company. I think she is going on 6 or 7 years (and I could be short on that number too).
I enjoy my job, it’s enjoyable helping people. It is also enjoyable to teach someone else “tricks” or skills that will make them more efficient in helping the customer. It is also fun learning systems, computers, new tricks, and I really enjoy the company of some of my co-workers. However, the flip side is – Technical Support seems to be a thankless and almost deadend job.
It doesn’t help that we are so close to buying our house, worried about transportation from the new house, worrying about family members health issues, dealing with overall expenses, and plain old stuff that just comes with life.
I’ve noticed some behavior recently (in myself and others) that doesn’t make sense in a logical way, but makes warped sense in an emotional way – if other people are doing something wrong that I don’t like, I can be good for a while and then just give in and do what they’ve been doing, but I am still “better”.
I am annoyed, and I need to take some time and figure what I am letting get to me.

Keyboard + Foot = Bad
Pain… all I can say is that dropping a keyboard on your foot, it hurts.
I don’t know how the keyboard was propelled off the box next to my foot, on to my foot. Now I have a mark where the corner hit, and a little pain.
Ah gravity…
